Multi-Phase Extraction System
The Multi- phase Extraction System with combined technologies (SEM), a European industrial patent by Erbagil®, is based on an innovative technology capable of extracting, with high yields, biologically active compounds (BACs) from plant matrices, respecting their native chemical structures, without creating artefacts or damage in the extraction phase.
SEM is able to selectively recover BACs based on their different polarities. Extraction occurs using only food-grade and non-toxic solvents, such as water, ethanol, and edible oils, including Ozoile®. Based on the concept of similes cum similibus , water will be able to extract everything soluble in it (salts, amino acids, simple sugars, proteins, water-soluble vitamins, soluble fibers, etc.), while alcohol will extract the substances it can solubilize, such as polyphenols and xanthophylls. Finally, edible oils will be used to extract lipid-based substances, such as sterols, and non-polar substances, such as carotenoids and fat-soluble vitamins.
The SEM is designed to be sustainable and environmentally friendly, using low-energy processes and reducing the use of harmful chemical solvents. This helps limit pollution and preserve air, water, and soil quality, ensuring ecosystem preservation.
SEM PATENT INSIGHT
SEM uses exclusively food-grade, non-toxic solvents, such as water, ethanol, and edible oils, including Ozoile® food. These solvents are environmentally and health-friendly, ensuring safe and sustainable production.

The system uses the principle of “like dissolves like”. Water extracts soluble compounds, such as salts and water-soluble vitamins, ethanol extracts polyphenols and xanthophylls, while edible oils extract lipid-based compounds, such as carotenoids and fat-soluble vitamins.
