Revenues multiplied, hires boom: 600 companies drive development

Rigorous, objective and scientific selection criteria, to identify what the German Quality and Finance Institute defines as "I campioni della crescita"
Six hundred companies, with an aggregate turnover of 14.7 billion euros in 2020, up 50% compared to 2017, almost 30 thousand jobs created, on average more than 38 per company, over half concentrated in the north-central Country (Lombardy, Lazio, Emilia-Romagna and Veneto) and active in 5 strategic sectors (industrial products, technology, sales & marketing, food and services & consulting).
This is the result that emerges from the fourth edition of the "Campioni della Crescita" survey by the German Itqf Institute, the prestigious project created in partnership with La Repubblica Affari & Finanza. A survey that photographs, after a careful selection, the list of companies that are driving the recovery based on the average annual growth generated in the three-year period 2017-2020.
"The analysis recognizes the excellence of the Italian economy which, despite a very difficult macroeconomic situation due to the health emergency, is experiencing significant development. This is a dynamic Italy which, through new technologies, innovations and exports often worldwide, creates jobs of work and distributes well-being and wealth in the territory" said Christian Bieker, director of the Itqf, an independent European leader in quality surveys. To be incorporated into the ranking, self-nominated companies had to comply with a series of strict criteria and provide financial statements and other documents upon request.
The long list included more than 25 thousand high-growth companies and was compiled through research in publicly available databases (for example, Chambers of Commerce), online company data, analysis of tenders and communication portals. In total, these research sources survey about 8 million Italian companies. All the companies on the long list were contacted by post, e-mail or telephone with the request to fill in a detailed questionnaire on the company's activity. Public announcements in "La Repubblica-A & F" and online have also invited other companies to apply for themselves.
To be part of the ranking of the 600 Growth Champions, companies had to comply with different criteria: having achieved a minimum turnover of 100,000 euros in 2017 and 1.2 million euros in 2020; be an independent company with registered office in Italy and grown mainly organically, not having the acquisition of other companies as a business model; not having committed serious violations (Article 80 of Legislative Decree 50/2016). Data was also collected on operating results in the three-year period 2017-2020 and on the number of employees, to discard companies with a continuous decline in employment or persistent losses.
The calculation of the growth rate was based on the turnover data communicated and confirmed by the candidate companies. The list of samples was drawn up on the basis of the average annual growth, the so-called compound annual growth rate, more commonly known as the Cagr (turnover 2020 / turnover 2017). The minimum average annual rate to enter the ranking was 8.54%, the highest average annual rate recorded was 297.59%. The data has been provided and officially confirmed by a member of management or a delegated employee of the company. All the data reported by the companies have been processed and checked by the Itqf and, in case of differences, the German Institute made use of publicly available official data (for example data present in the Business Register). The methodology is also used in other European countries such as Germany where the "Campioni della Crescita" have enjoyed great success for years.
"Being among the magnificent 600 is the visible and official proof of your business success and at the same time a concrete opportunity to demonstrate your entrepreneurial ability, attract new business opportunities, talents and investors. Being present in the list of Campioni della Crescita increases not only the knowledge and reputation of the company as an employer, but also conveys to potential employees the idea of having great prospects for the future. The selected companies have the right to obtain the relevant quality seal of the Itqf " concludes Bieker.
The list of the 600 champions of 2022 growth was drawn up on the basis of the average annual growth in turnover in the three-year period 2017-2020. The data was provided and officially confirmed by a member of management or a delegated employee of the companies. All the data reported have been processed and checked by the Itqf and, in case of divergences, the Itqf made use of publicly available official data. Candidates who did not meet
the above criteria or with a growth rate of less than 8.54% were not considered in the final ranking. Despite the complex procedure, the survey does not claim to be complete: there may be companies with a high growth rate that have not wanted to make their financial statements public or have not participated in the initiative for other reasons."
